Privacy policy

ReelYums ("we", "us") is a recipe-saving service operated by Isaiah Shawver, an independent sole trader, trading as Shawver Tech. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and what control you have over it. For anything about your data, email ishawver10@gmail.com.
What we collect
- Your email address, name and a hashed password when you sign up.
- The recipes and saved links you keep, including original URLs, photos or thumbnails, ingredients, steps, tags, private personal notes, Courses, and Collections.
- When you choose Share, a temporary snapshot of that cookbook item and a record of anyone who adds it to their cookbook.
- Whether your account is on the Free or Premium plan.
- Anything you send us through the contact form.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your data or share it with advertisers.
- We don't browse your recipes. They're private to your account unless you deliberately create a sharing link.
- We don't run advertising trackers and we never show ads on the site.
Where your data lives
Your account, recipes, saved links, personal notes, Collections, and recipe photos are stored with Supabase, our database, authentication, and private file-storage provider. When an imported recipe or saved link includes a thumbnail, ReelYums copies the supported image into your private photo storage so a temporary social-media image link does not make it disappear later. ReelYums may try the original post once to repair an older broken thumbnail. Access is protected with row-level security, which means Supabase only lets you read and change your own records and uploaded files. Private photos are displayed with temporary signed links.
The site itself is hosted by Netlify. Messages you send through the contact form are delivered and stored by Netlify's form service so we can read and reply to them.
Saving a link from your phone
If you share a Reel, video, post, or website through a compatible Android app, the shared title, text, and URL are treated as untrusted input. ReelYums accepts only normal HTTP or HTTPS links. Separate receipts stay in the receiving browser's shared-links inbox for up to 7 days, including while you sign in or reconnect. These receipts are local device copies; nothing enters your online cookbook until you review it and tap Save. You can remove receipts from the inbox, and signing out clears that account's receipts and links received before sign-in. The share-receiver page does not load Google Analytics. Incoming query strings or legacy share fragments are removed before outside resources load; share requests are never cached by the service worker. Clipboard access occurs only after you tap a paste button.
ReelYums stores the original link and bookmark details; it does not download or keep a copy of the social-media video. If the source owner deletes the post or makes it private later, your bookmark information can remain while the original link may stop working.
Sharing a cookbook item
Sharing is optional. When you tap Share, ReelYums makes a snapshot of that recipe or saved link and an unguessable private link that works for 14 days. Anyone who has the link can preview the snapshot without an account, so only send it to people you trust. The link itself is not stored in our database; we store a one-way hash used to check it.
A recipient must tap “Add to my ReelYums” and log in before a copy is saved to their cookbook. We keep a private acceptance record so repeated taps do not make duplicate copies. Your personal notes, Collection memberships, and privately uploaded photos are not placed in the shared snapshot. The sender's account and identity are not shown on the preview. The link stops working after 14 days; expired snapshots are removed during later share cleanup, and all of a sender's snapshots are removed if they delete their account. Deleting the original item by itself does not immediately revoke a link that was already created.
Payments
If you subscribe to Premium ($3.99/month or $38.40/year), payment is handled by Stripe, our payment processor. Your card details go to Stripe directly - we never see or store your full card number. We keep only the Stripe customer and subscription identifiers needed to show your plan and let you cancel.
Cookies and local storage
Cooking progress and recent recipes are remembered on this device. When you download a recipe or shopping list, its content, private notes, and uploaded photo are stored in this browser for offline use. Deleting a recipe first saves a recovery copy on this device, available for seven days; expired copies are removed when you next open Recently Deleted or delete another recipe. Signing out or choosing Remove device copies in Settings removes these copies. Anyone with access to this browser while you remain signed in may read them. The offline reader does not load analytics. Shopping checkmarks are queued on this device for your account and sent to your online list in Supabase when connected and signed in with ReelYums open. Pending checkmarks take priority over changes on another device; deleted items are not recreated. Sync retries on reconnect, when you return to the app, and periodically while it is visible. Closing the app does not guarantee background sync. Signing out or removing device copies also removes pending checkmarks. Shopping list downloads remain snapshots until you download the list again.
We use browser storage to keep you signed in, remember preferences such as dark mode and text size, protect unfinished cookbook drafts on your device until you save or discard them, and briefly carry an Android shared link through login. Google Analytics sets its own cookies so it can tell a repeat visit from a new one. No advertising cookies.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages get used, so we know what to fix and what to build next. It records the pages you open, roughly where in the world you are (worked out from your IP address), and what browser and device you're using. It never receives your name, your email address, personal notes, incoming Android share data, original saved URLs, or anything inside your recipes and saved links. We don't use it for advertising or ad personalization.
Since you're visiting from a region where we ask first, here's where you can change your mind:
Your rights
- You can download all of your recipes from Settings at any time.
- You can permanently delete your account and everything in it from Settings. That takes effect immediately and can't be undone.
- You can edit your name and your recipes whenever you like.
Children
ReelYums is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll note the new date at the top of this page.
